Stipend for Education

Poverty and economic hardship force some children to work instead of attending school regularly in order to help meet their families’ basic needs. Working during childhood can cause children to fall behind, leave school, and lose future opportunities.

Rushd Charity Foundation established the “Stipend for Education” program to provide targeted financial support to working children and their families, enabling the children to continue their education.

Any individual, family, or institution may sponsor one or more children and help them remain in school instead of carrying out difficult work.

Campaign type: Open-ended and ongoing support

Support method: Monthly sponsorship of one or more children

Support amount per child: AFN 3,000 to AFN 5,000 per month

Program duration: Ongoing, with no fixed end date

Payment method: Official bank accounts of Rushd Charity Foundation

Why Was the “Stipend for Education” Program Created?

In many low-income families, the small income earned by a child contributes to daily household expenses. As a result, even when parents want their child to study, financial pressure may force them to send the child to work.

In such circumstances, simply saying that “the child should go to school” does not solve the problem, because the family still faces an income shortage.

The “Stipend for Education” program seeks to replace part of the income that a child would otherwise earn through work. This assistance reduces pressure on the family and helps create the conditions for the child to remain in education.

How Is the Program Implemented?

Children and families are selected for the program after their financial circumstances, living conditions, and educational status have been assessed.

Depending on the family’s circumstances and level of need, each child receives monthly financial support of between AFN 3,000 and AFN 5,000.

The child’s attendance and continued education are reviewed periodically. The Foundation remains in contact with the family and the child’s educational institution to ensure that the program’s central objective - reducing child labour and keeping the child in education - is being achieved.

This program does not include stationery, clothing, or other educational supplies. Donations raised through the campaign are used for monthly financial assistance to the children and their families.

Current Status of the Program

The “Stipend for Education” program began approximately one year ago, and 10 children currently benefit from its financial support.

However, other children in need are still working because of economic hardship or are at risk of leaving school. The number of children who can join the program in the future depends on the financial support received from donors and sponsors.

For this reason, the campaign does not have a fixed final number of beneficiaries. Whenever funding for an additional child becomes available, the Foundation can assess another eligible child and include them in the program.

How Can You Sponsor a Child?

Monthly support for each child ranges from AFN 3,000 to AFN 5,000, depending on the circumstances of the child and family.

Support Options

Sponsor one child for one month

AFN 3,000 to AFN 5,000

Sponsor one child for three months

AFN 9,000 to AFN 15,000

Sponsor one child for six months

AFN 18,000 to AFN 30,000

Sponsor one child for one year

AFN 36,000 to AFN 60,000

Sponsor multiple children

A sponsor may cover the monthly or annual support of more than one child.

The exact amount required for each child is determined after the family’s financial circumstances have been assessed.

What Difference Will Your Support Make?

Your financial support can:

·        Reduce the economic pressure placed on the child and family;

·        Enable the child to attend school more regularly;

·        Reduce the risk of the child leaving education;

·        Protect the child from difficult and unsuitable work;

·        Create opportunities for academic, moral, and social development;

·        Increase the family’s hope for their child’s future.

Your contribution is not merely a monthly payment. It gives a child the chance not to be forced to choose labour over education.
